Louise, born on February 11, 1931, in Abington, PA, was a remarkable individual whose legacy is filled with love and service. She graduated from Abington High School in 1949 and pursued a secretarial degree at Averett College. In 1954, while enjoying a day of water skiing in Ocean City, NJ, she met the love of her life, Charles P. Baker, III. The couple wed on January 8, 1955, and together they raised three wonderful children.
A true visionary, Louise was not only a doer but also an imaginative thinker with a strong faith that guided her through many challenges. Early in her marriage, she founded a women’s investment club that continues to thrive today. Her passion for gardening led her to become an active member of the local garden club, where she shared her love for nature with others. In 1980, alongside her husband Charles, she established Baker Industries, a nonprofit organization dedicated to employing and training individuals facing significant life challenges, including homelessness, parole or probation, recovery from addiction, and intellectual and/ or physical disabilities.
Louise's contributions to her community did not go unnoticed. In 1991, she and Charles were honored with the Point of Light Award given by President George H. W. Bush for their work with Baker Industries. Additionally, in 2008, she received the prestigious Clara Barton Outstanding Humanitarian Award from the American Red Cross. Louise’s spirit of generosity and commitment to helping others will always be remembered.
Louise is survived by her beloved husband, Charles P. Baker, III; her children, C. Pitman Baker, IV and his wife Marilyn, Sandra B. Ebbott and her husband Bill, and Justin W. Baker. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Richard Schaper and his wife Rebekah Starnes, Mitchell An-Ebbott and his wife Andi, Charles P. Baker, V, and Kaitlyn Ebbott Forster and her husband Drew. Louise will be greatly missed by her great-grandchildren, Max, Simon, and Louisa.
A celebration of life will be held at Wayne Presbyterian Church on February 17th at 11:00am with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Baker Industries, 184 Pennsylvania Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355.
