Margaret M. Lehman

Margaret “Peggy” Munchmeyer Lehman, 90, of Audubon, PA, formerly of Wayne, PA, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025. She was born in Richmond, VA on September 2, 1935, to the late Louis Wells and Margaret (Gordon) Munchmeyer.

Peggy grew up in several states due to her father’s Army engineering career and developed a lifelong love of the outdoors, animals, reading, science and family. She graduated from Swarthmore College in 1957 with a degree in Chemistry. She worked as a pharmaceutical chemist at McNeil Laboratories before marrying John “Jack” Lehman in 1958. They settled in Wayne, where they raised their two children. Peggy later spent 26 years as a Chemistry Laboratory Instructor at Swarthmore College.

A devoted member of the Valley Forge branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW), Peggy chaired the annual book sale that supported educational scholarships for young women. She was also an enthusiastic tennis player at Martin’s Dam Club and continued playing into her seventies. In retirement, she traveled widely and treasured time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Karen) Lehman and Jim (Beth) Lehman; grandchildren, Johnny (Kaity), Christy (Josh), Mike, and Chris (Gemma); great grandchildren, Jaina and Ashlynn; and sister in law Margaret (Niehuss) Munchmeyer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John (Jack) Gress Lehman Sr. For the past 16 years, she enjoyed the loving companionship of her partner, Herb Fanning.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 132 E. Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia, PA with visitation from 10–11 a.m. A lunch reception will follow. Inurnment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Forge branch of AAUW (Checks should be made out to Valley Forge Branch, AAUW and sent to Jean Givey, 125 Camelot Lane, Newtown Square, PA 19073) or the ASPCA (https://www.aspca.org/).
