Born and raised in Philadelphia amidst the Great Depression, she was the fourth of Albert and Eva Waller’s six children. Upon her parents’ untimely deaths, she was adopted by her best friend’s parents, George and Iva Wilson. Affectionately known as Peg, she graduated from Simon Gratz High School, Palmer Business School, and Charles Morris Price School of Advertising. She worked in advertising and real estate, sales, and finally as an administrative assistant at Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work.
Peg devoted her life to raising her family. She had strong family values and was very involved with all her children in their educational and extracurricular activities. Peg’s personality reflected the strength of the Greatest Generation and was defined by grit, optimism, and a zeal for life. Along with her mother Iva, and sister Jane, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, in her case for 75 years. Peg was always quick to lend a hand wherever needed. She was devoted to Meals on Wheels and enjoyed volunteering as a long time Attic Treasures chairperson at Normandy Farms and filling in at the front desk.
Peg enjoyed tennis, board games and playing cards with anyone willing to part with their money (i.e. pennies). Peg attended church wherever she lived and served as a deacon on several occasions throughout her life. Most recently, she enjoyed attending church at Normandy Farms while also attending virtual services from the New Canaan First Presbyterian Church where her children were confirmed, her daughter was married, and Lois and Doug’s children were baptized. She was venerated by all who knew her, and everyone who met her quickly became a friend.
Peg was the beloved wife of the late Howard McConnell whom she married shortly after World War II. She was the loving mother to daughter, Lois (Doug) Bondor, Paul (Suzanne) and Peter. She will be missed by her sister Evelyn, her eight grandchildren, and her whole extended family. Peg’s family especially wants to thank the nursing staff and many others at Normandy Farms for providing excellent care filled with love and devotion.
