

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mary Lou was the daughter of Frank G. and Mildred M. English. She graduated from West Catholic Girls High School and attended Immaculata College.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Scanlon. She is survived by her seven children- Jay (Sandy), Charles (Linda), Kathryn (Jim), Jeanne, Mark (Carolmarie), Christopher (Kathy), and Barbara (Joel) along with 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
After raising her family, Mary Lou pursued an interest in floral design. She ran a small business serving the Main Line area and was an active member of the Bala Cynwyd Garden Club. Her work earned recognition at local shows, including several awards at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
In her later years, she worked at Bed Bath & Beyond in Wynnewood, retiring at the age of 90. Mary Lou was an avid reader and enjoyed time with her family. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting mark on those around her.
A private celebration of life will be held with family at a later date.
Her life was long, full, and well lived and she will be remembered with love.
