

Fayetteville, PA, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by love and family.
Bertha was born in Carlisle, April 4, 1933, to Elmer S. and Matilda M. Souders Calaman.
Upon graduation from Carlisle High School, Bertha was the recipient of the Cumberland Valley
Savings and Loan award for fiscal management. After graduation, she met and married the
love of her life, Alvin H. Grippin.
Bertha was formerly employed by the Cumberland County Welfare Office with the Food
Distribution Program. She was extremely active in Newville's Little League, Cub Scouts, Swim
Team, and musical activities. She was the secretary of Zion Lutheran Church in Newville and
was involved with many church activities. She also delivered newspapers as a “favor” for her
husband and children in inclement weather - maybe. Bertha and Al moved to Derry, NH, where
she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and took classes to earn her LPN. Upon Al’s death, she
moved back to Newville, where she was employed by Green Ridge Village in several different
capacities.
Bertha was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Al, and her daughter-in-law, Barb. She is survived by her five Children: Daniel,
Regina (Walter), Michael (Detra), Marcella (Ron), and James (Elaine). Bertha is also survived by
13 grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, and 15 great-grandchildren, who were bragged
about endlessly.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
