

Born on November 8, 1919, in Edenville, PA, he was a son of the late Robert and Ruth Foreman Keefer.
He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1938. Mr. Keefer was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having enlisted in January 1942 and served during WWII. He was stationed in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Northern Philippines, and Luzon. Harold received the Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Occupational Medal, and the Germany and WWII Victory Medals. The six Bronze Stars were awarded for heroic and meritorious achievements. He also served in the Korean War, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1959.
In his earlier years, he worked at Howard Johnson's on the PA Turnpike as a restaurant manager and the Mercersburg Light Company, retiring after 30 years at Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a member of the American Legion Wesley Yeager Post #606, the Mercersburg VFW Post 6241, Elks Club #600, the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1063, and AARP.
Harold was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. He and his wife spent their winters in Myrtle Beach for the past 30 yrs where they established life-long friendships with 28 other couples.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by a granddaughter, Tesha Keefer; a great-granddaughter, Shaylee Keefer Kuykendall; former daughter-in-law, Sharon Dougherty; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry, a Vietnam Veteran and a sister, Mary Lawyer.
At his request, there will be no viewing or funeral services. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 13189 Main St, Fort Loudon, PA 17224.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, addressed above.
