Nicol Taylor, resident of Willow Valley, Willow Street, PA died July 14 at 89 years of age. Nick was born in Philadelphia in 1936, the only child of Samuel and Mary Taylor. He is survived by his wife Wendy, his daughters Lynn Pickwell and Nicole Uibel, son-in-law John Uibel, grandson Chris Uibel, and his great grandchildren Logan and Lala Uibel.
Nick began his career in construction working in his father’s construction company, which later became N.C.Taylor Construction. Moving on, Nick joined Robert Lynn’s architectural firm as a liaison between the architects and the builders.Nick came to Lancaster to run Rice and Weidman Construction Company and later founded Taylor Construction. Importantly, Nick found time for volunteering, serving on the Boys and Girls Board for 20 years. His work took him to join Earl Hess to design and build Lancaster Labs and even a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. Later he worked for Wohlsen Construction Company in design-build, and still later, reluctant to retire, went on to be a consultant.
Talking about Nick’s occupations is important, but does not touch the man Nick was. Nick talked to everybody in his orbit, high or low, so everyone knew him and his humor, sometimes witty but often just fun. I often joke that I had to chase him to capture him, well worth the effort. We traveled to 52 countries where he continued to be the Nick to laugh with or go on stage. He was a family man devoted to not only blood relatives, but also those in his combined family. Our hearts were blessed with his life and broken with his passing.
