Robert Axel Bjorkman (Bob), of Carlisle, passed away at home on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Alfons and Helen (Thorn) Bjorkman.
Bob graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology where he studied Mechanical Engineering, and was the first in his family to earn a 4-year degree. After college he served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
During his engineering career, Bob held various roles with Uniroyal in the northeast U.S., as well as an overseas assignment, before joining Carlisle SynTec Systems. He spent 13 years there as Director of Engineering until his retirement in 1994.
Known to his friends and family as a gifted woodworker, Bob also loved music and nature, was a devoted husband and father, and above all, a kind-hearted man who genuinely cared about people. He enjoyed classical music and opera, as well as singing in glee club. Outdoors, he was an avid birdwatcher and gardener.
Bob will be remembered for his intellect, compassion, and impish sense of humor. He often had a playful twinkle in his eye and loved gentle pranks.
Surviving are his loving wife of (73) years, Alice Hall Bjorkman; his daughter Karin Steiner; his grandsons Peter Steiner and Erik Steiner; his sister, Eleanor Sahadi; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Eric Bjorkman.
