
Born December 30, 1925, in Laporte, he was a son of the late Persel L. and Ethlin I. (Mason) Carpenter. He married Nancy M. Zimmerman on June 24, 1950. They shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
He was a graduate of Sonestown High School, earned a B.S. from Lock Haven Teacher's College, and a Master's Degree from Shippensburg University.
Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Maritime Service in NYC and in the U.S. Army during WWII, based in Germany.
He served as the Mayor of Laporte from 7/7/69 to 1/3/12 and was a member of the local VFW, the Laporte Volunteer Fire Company, and was a 32A� Mason.
Always a kid at heart, he enjoyed his years teaching and as a guidance counselor in the Sullivan County School District. Bob was the first certified driver's education teacher in Sullivan County. He truly loved his family and was proud of them.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Ron) Insinger; 2 granddaughters, Laurie Beth (Ron) Emery and Lisa Ann (Marc) Walter; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ronald Scott Emery, Grant Robert Walter, and Kayla Ann Emery.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was preceded in death by twin sons, James and John; a brother Joseph Carpenter; a sister, Carolyn Bigelow, and a grandson, Ronald Scott Insinger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012, 3:00 p.m., at St. John's Community Church, Beech and Cherry Streets, Laporte, PA.
