July 23, 1951–September 5, 2026
Roger Allen Custer, 75, of Lebanon, PA, passed away on September 5, 2026, at home surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Roger was born on July 23, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, to Robert Edward Custer Sr. and Louise (Powell) Custer. Roger was the second of three brothers – Robert and James. He and his family grew up in Abington; and he was a graduate of Abington High School and spent a good portion of his adult life there.
Roger spent most of his early working years as a carpenter – always focused on perfection. He and Jane raised three children together, Karen, Stephen, and Jennifer. He devoted his life to his family and faith, organizing biannual camping trips with the family and fellow church friends for decades at Hickory Run State Park. His dedication to his faith ultimately led him and Jane to start their own non-profit thrift store, Blue Mountain Thrift, in Annville, Pennsylvania which they ran together for 17 years. Through this ministry they were able to support several organizations and individuals. This was a labor of love until he and Jane retired in 2023. After retirement, he would volunteer his carpentry skills and assistance with many different organizations and projects.
Roger will be remembered for his sharp wit and his giving nature, and his willingness to lend a helping hand or give helpful advice to others. He enjoyed nature, spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing both guitar and bass, and volunteering his time both locally and abroad on mission trips to Mexico and Belize.
Roger is survived by his wife Jane Ann Custer; his children, Karen Elizabeth Custer, Stephen John Custer and wife Jill, and Jennifer Ann Darnell and her husband Justin; and his many grandchildren – Matthew and Julia Custer, Joseph, Daniel, and Alexander Custer and Elizabeth, Abigail, Naomi, and Hope Darnell. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and James Custer (Donna) and their families.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 am, at Christ Evangelical Free Church, 8477 Route 183, Bethel, PA 19507.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to Christian Ministry Technical Services (CMTS)https://cmtsministries.com/donate/.
