They have two sons: Steven W. McConnell his wife Evelyn and Alan R. McConnell his wife Karen. They
have three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by a brother Lee N.
Foose and Step-father Edward Connelly.
Shirley attended and graduated from William Penn in Harrisburg. She was employed as a telephone
operator by The Bell Telephone Company and then worked and retired from the Pa. Blue Shield.
Shirley was an inspiration to so many people. Her smile radiated her love of her Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. She wanted everyone to know the joy and peace of having Jesus in their hearts and lives.
Shirley was a faithful member of the Carlisle First Church of God and served as the President of the
Women’s Ministry Group. Shirley also served as the Director of Vacation Bible School and the Snack
Director. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir when she lived in Harrisburg at St Paul’s
Church. Shirley loved the fellowship and friendship of the church family-she loved to hug and be
hugged!!! Shirley and Mac enjoyed travelling together all over the United States, going to their cabin in
the mountains and especially going to the shore at Ocean City, Md. each year to celebrate their
anniversary. They enjoyed taking their sons and eventually the grand children on many vacations. The
family looked forward to Sundays when we would come together for dinner and enjoy the home
cooking of “mom”. Shirley was always busy and was very crafty with her crocheting of prayer shawls
and blankets for family and friends. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, baking, and canning.
Shirley loved and enjoyed life and all her family and friends. Shirley will be greatly missed by all!!
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those at the Green Ridge
Village Senior Center for their love and wonderful care of Shirley (mom) during this time. May God Bless
all of you!!
Shirley’s cremation and immediate services will be private. A celebration of Life service will be
announced once scheduled.
