On October 3, 2023, Stephen Walter Bigalow, age 70, of Mars, PA completed his work here on earth. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Ivan Walter Bigalow (1965) and June Woolever Steele Bigalow (2014). Steve is survived by his wife of ten years, Sandra M. Bigalow, his sister, Diane S. Kelly (Franklin) of Pittsburgh, PA and his brother Andrew P. Bigalow (Polly) of Fernandina Beach, FL.
Steve was the cherished stepfather of Matthew Lamirand and Melissa (Patrick) Hammack, step grandfather of Macey and Avery Hammack and Benjamin and Zachary Lamirand, devoted uncle of Nancy (Patrick) McQueeny, Jeffrey (Shelley) Kelly, Clayton Boggs, and Andrew Bigalow, and great-uncle of Hallie, Molly, and Annie McQueeny and Caroline, Brendan, and Bethany Kelly.
Steve was a 1971 graduate of North Hills High School in Pittsburgh and a 1975 graduate of Cornell University. While at Cornell he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, whose brotherhood was an anchor of his life and friendships until the very end. Steve’s career focused on investing; he was considered an expert in “Candlestick Trading”, a subject about which he was a published author several times over and a sought-after speaker and consultant. Steve was passionate about teaching and loved training others at the “Candlestick Forum” chat rooms, various teaching seminars and his website candlestickforum.com was considered a beacon of trading knowledge.
Steve had a powerful sense of humor and an extensive inventory of jokes ready to call forth, no matter how many times his audience had previously heard them. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and his (sometimes irreverent but always entertaining) gift-giving to his younger family members was legendary. His family roots were in upstate New York, and he loved the beauty and tranquility of the Finger Lakes and Lake George. He was known for his love of antique automobiles as well as being a Victrola and Edison aficionado.
In memory of Stephen W. Bigalow, may his wisdom and teachings continue to guide and benefit traders and investors for generations to come and may his jokes be perpetuated onward to the next generations. He will be greatly missed by his family members and all those who knew him. A celebration of life will take place at Dutilh United Methodist Church 1270 Dutilh Rd, Cranberry Township, PA 16066, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm eastern. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Cherokee Children’s Home (https://www.chc4kids.org).
