John E. Kirby Jr.

May 24, 2026.

Born February 21, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey, he was a son of the late John E. and Dorothy Norris Kirby Sr.

John found great joy in spending time with his family. John enjoyed trivia, opera, cooking, and telling stories. He traveled to all 50 states and 26 countries with his beloved wife, Patricia. John especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren; cooking chocolate banana pancakes, and setting off fireworks, then running away.

John will be remembered for the lasting impact he had on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to live on through the love shared with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his niece, Bernadette Kirby.

John is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Bowman Kirby; sons, John E. Kirby III (Sean), John Gonzalez (Anita); daughter, Lisa McCarthy (Daniel); 7 grandchildren; Jack ,Ian, Stella Blue, Alexander (AJ), Rebecca, Amanda, Daniel (DJ); great grandson Christopher (CJ); brother, Lee Kirby (Peggy); niece, Peggy Lee; and nephews, John and Brian.

John’s wishes are for a Celebration of Life in lieu of a traditional service, that will be scheduled at the convenience of the family.
