Nancy Mattioli

Nancy was born and raised in Avoca, daughter of the late Robert Sr. And Olive Elizabeth (Gordon) Pointon. She was a 1952 graduate of Avoca high school.

During her high school years Nancy was a majorette and a ballroom roller skater. She continued ballroom skating after high school where she was sponsored by Pop's Roller Rink and won many competitions and awards.

Before retiring in 1990 from JC Penney’s human resource department, Nancy also worked at Best Western in (Scranton), Kmart (Pittston) and Associated Aviation Underwriters at the Wilkes Barre /Scranton International Airport where she met the love of her life and husband of 65 years Otto Jr.

She was a member of St. John's The Baptist Church (Avoca), Saint Peter and Paul's Catholic Church (Avoca), Sparrows Club member of the Crystal Cathedral, since inception (Garden Grove, CA) and lifetime member of the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Besides being in the Avoca ladies auxiliary, Nancy was very active as a member of the Grove St. Elementary PTA and den mother of her daughter's brownie troop and sons cub scout troop.

The children in the neighborhood knew her as Ma, as she would keep watch to make sure everyone stayed safe. She was a kind and gentle soul.

Nancy was a loving wife and mother and was hardly ever seen without her companion dog Buddy whom she loved very much. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Otto Mattioli Jr., son Michael Mattioli, daughter Barbara Mattioli, brothers Robert Pointon Jr. (Bud), Floyd Pointon (Butch), Howard Pointon (Mickey) and sisters Doris Jones, Ruth Schaffer, and Naomi Pointon.

Surviving are her daughter Karen Mattioli (Avoca), son Santo Mattioli (Avoca) and daughter-in-law Christina Mattioli (Avoca).

At Nancy’s request there will be no viewing. A private memorial was held at the family's residence. Cards may be sent to the family's residence at 208 Grove St. Avoca, PA. 18641.
