Robert John Mengle Sr.

Born on July 29, 1949, Robert lived a life defined by service, leadership, and dedication to his family and community. He proudly served our country through a distinguished 37-year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 365 Heavy Combat, Co. A, where his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence earned the respect of all who knew him.

Robert devoted countless hours to civic, fraternal, and veterans' organizations throughout his life. He served as a six-time Past Master at Laurel Lodge No. 467 Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Masonic District Tie Club, and Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, MSA. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel and was also a member of Four Chaplains, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Craftsman's Club.

A proud veteran advocate, Robert served as former Commander of AMVETS Post 253, White Haven American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He served as a trustee of Laurel Cemetery in White Haven and was also a member of the Penn Rod & Gun Club and the Wyoming Trail Council of Pennsylvania Native Americans.

In recognition of his unwavering dedication to his community, Robert was honored with the White Haven Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2016.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Joanne Mengle; his children, Jodi Trimmer, Robert J. Mengle, Jr., and Mark Mengle; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Trimmer, Matthew Trimmer, and Cody Mengle; and his siblings, Donna Christman (Kenny), Emil Gera, Jr. (Linda), George Gera (Leanne), John Gera (Jennifer), and Marianne Gera, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. Mengle and Marie Roof; and his sisters, Darlene Beazzo, Anne Delese, and Irene Schoch.

Robert’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA, for the exceptional care they provided to him throughout the years.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roberts memory to Laurel Lodge No. 467. 424 Northumberland Street, White Haven, PA
