Dorothy George, age 90, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away April 20, 2019, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Dottie was born August 21, 1928, in Harrisburg, PA. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Carrie Burger of Progress.
Dottie retired as an associate from the former Polyclinic Medical Center and was a member of the Progress Church of God. She loved singing, dancing, Bible study with her friends, and, most of all, being with her family.
A graduate of Susquehanna High School, Dottie was active in girls basketball and played in the 1946-1947 Girls Championship. She was a member of the Girls Ensemble, placing first in the State Forensic Contest of 1947. Dottie was also a member of the Girls Trio and Mixed Choir and Band Front.
Dottie was a member of the Linglestown Legion Auxiliary and Women’s Club: a volunteer Cub Mother, and a volunteer at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital where she received the “Volunteer of the Year Award” in 1996. Dottie also served as President of the “Guild” with the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
The beloved wife of 54 years to the late Eddie S. George, Jr., she is survived by her two sons, Eddie S. George, III, wife Robbyn George, and Craig K. George, wife Janiece George; a daughter, Vickie George; three grandchildren, one step grandson, seven great-grandchildren, and a niece, Lucille Fornwald Kannegieser. She is also survived by her current husband, Marshall Gillard and was predeceased in death by her daughter, Cindy George. Her world was her children, whom she loved so very much.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm, May 4th, 2019 at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, 4100 Jonestown Road. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
